The Asia Nano Forum (ANF) is a network organization, founded in May 2004, to promote excellence in research, development and the economic uptake of nanotechnology within the Asian region. This collaborative network seeks to benefit its member economies educationally, socially, environmentally and economically by fostering collaboration and acting as a focus for regional and global nanotechnology issues. Asia Nano Forum (ANF) Network is supported by 13 economies in the Asia Pacific Region including Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
During the past 16 months, the ANF has built the information sharing platform-ANF website which allow all network economies to upload and share information on nanotechnology across the Asia Pacific region. ANF has been actively supporting member economies with their nanotechnology initiatives and events through ANF special workshops on societal impact in China, Malaysia Nanotech Forum (MNF2005), and other international or bilateral nanotech events in Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Taiwan. ANF has also started human resource exchange program between Malaysia and Japan. Steering Committee meetings have been held in Beijing (Nov. 04), Johor Bahru (July 05), Hong Kong (Aug.05), and Taipei (Sept.05) to review ANF activities and the future operation of ANF.
The ANF Objectives are to:
? Foster nanotechnology in the region by creating mechanisms to share information, human and physical resources and expertise.
? Coordinate joint investment in and mutual access to major infrastructure by member economies
? Initiate, promote and manage co-operative scientific and technology research projects within the member economies
? Support regional economic and environmental development through joint projects addressing major regional issues, with an emphasis on support of developing and emerging economies
? Enhance public awareness and education of nanotechnology and associated social, environmental, health and economic issues
? Act as an advocacy group for nanotechnology in the region and for adequate regional representation of nanotechnology at global forums
